Connecticut Air-to-Water Heat Pump Rebates

Connecticut publishes a $250-per-ton standard air-to-water offer and a $1,000-per-ton Energy Optimization path, with enhanced incentives up to $1,500 per ton for certain verified projects.

Connecticut uses qualified cooling capacity for tonnage

Energize CT states that tonnage is based on AHRI cooling capacity divided by 12,000 BTU and rounded under program rules. That value can differ from the APOLLO commercial product name. These estimates use the reviewed reference capacities of 2.00, 4.00 and 5.54 tons and must be rechecked against the live Energize CT list.

Compare Connecticut incentive pathways

The standard, Energy Optimization and enhanced offers serve different project conditions. Pre-verification is especially important for income and electric-resistance enhancements.

  • Standard air-to-water offer

    $250 per ton, up to $2,500

    This path applies to qualifying projects such as replacing an existing heat pump, adding heat to previously unconditioned space or installing for heat without the required integrated controls.

    The customer must have eligible Eversource or United Illuminating residential electric service.

  • Energy Optimization

    $1,000 per ton, up to $10,000

    For qualifying projects that fully displace or properly integrate natural gas, oil, propane or electric resistance as the primary heating source.

    If inspection finds the project does not satisfy the optimization path, the incentive may be modified to the $250-per-ton standard offer.

  • Enhanced incentive

    Up to $1,500 per ton, capped at $10,000

    Certain income-qualified households and verified electric-resistance replacement projects may receive the enhanced rate.

    Electric-resistance projects require verification before installation, and the enhanced rate may apply only to the verified portion of the system.

Eligibility checklist

  • The installation address is an eligible Eversource or United Illuminating residential electric account.
  • The equipment will be installed within the participating utility service territory.
  • The complete model is on the current Energize CT Heat Pump Qualified Product List.
  • The installer participates in the Energize CT Heat Pump Installer Network.
  • The existing heating system and planned displacement or integration match the selected incentive path.
  • Income or electric-resistance verification is completed before installation when seeking an enhanced incentive.

How to apply

  1. Identify the correct incentive path

    Determine whether the project qualifies for the standard air-to-water offer, Energy Optimization or an enhanced pathway.

  2. Complete any required pre-verification

    Verify income or existing electric-resistance heat before installation when required for the enhanced offer.

  3. Hire a participating installer

    Use a contractor in the Energize CT Heat Pump Installer Network and review the existing-system displacement plan.

  4. Verify the exact model and capacity

    Match the complete model to the current QPL and use the program or AHRI cooling capacity for the estimate.

  5. Install and keep a detailed invoice

    The invoice should identify equipment, capacity, installer and the project information required by the program.

  6. Claim the rebate and complete any inspection

    Submit the final paid invoice and cooperate with a post-installation inspection if the project is selected.

Confirm the current QPL model and existing-system pathway

A QPL-listed model alone does not establish the rebate path. The participating installer, existing heating system, integrated controls, verified electric-resistance length and income status can change the final amount. Confirm all requirements before purchase or installation.
