Answers

Frequently asked questions

What size wall fan coil unit do I need?

The Apollo Wall Fan Coil comes in two sizes with estimated coverage guidance: 1.5-ton AP-FCU-18K: 400–900 ft²; 3-ton AP-FCU-36K: 800–1,300 ft². Actual sizing depends on insulation, layout, climate, water temperature, and heat loss. Multiple fan coil units can share one air-to-water heat pump through a common hydronic loop.

What are the heating and cooling capacities of the Apollo wall fan coil?

The 1.5-ton AP-FCU-18K delivers 12,000 BTU of cooling and 18,400 BTU of heating. The 3-ton AP-FCU-36K delivers 18,500 BTU of cooling and 31,500 BTU of heating. Actual output depends on entering water temperature from your heat pump.

Is the Apollo wall fan coil compatible with an air-to-water heat pump?

Yes. It connects to a hot or chilled water loop through ½ in NPT threaded fittings. One heat pump can supply multiple fan coil units simultaneously for multiple zones without refrigerant lines to each room.

What thermostat works with the Apollo wall fan coil?

Any standard 24VAC fan coil unit thermostat is compatible. MBTEK's Wi-Fi Fan Coil Thermostat adds scheduling and remote control. The thermostat controls three fan speeds and switches heating or cooling modes based on water temperature.

How quiet is the Apollo wall fan coil?

The 1.5-ton model operates at 33–45 dB and the 3-ton model at 33–47 dB, depending on fan speed. At low speed, both are quieter than a typical library.

Does the Apollo wall fan coil work with both 2-pipe and 4-pipe systems?

Yes. Selectable 2-pipe and 4-pipe variants are available. A 2-pipe system shares one hot-or-chilled loop; a 4-pipe system uses separate hot-water and chilled-water circuits for simultaneous heating and cooling designs.

What are the water connection requirements?

The wall fan coil uses ½ in NPT threaded supply and return connections and is rated to 200 PSI. Shut-off valves and an air vent are recommended. Insulate supply piping to prevent surface condensation during cooling.

What power does the wall fan coil require?

The 1.5-ton AP-FCU-18K draws 33 W and the 3-ton AP-FCU-36K draws 35 W on 120 VAC. Thermostat control wiring runs at 24 VAC.

How does the wall fan coil compare to a concealed or ceiling cassette FCU, and what's included?

Wall FCUs are visible, surface-mounted, and fastest to retrofit. Concealed FCUs hide above a ceiling and use short ducts; ceiling cassettes mount flush and discharge air four ways. Each wall unit includes a condensate drain pan and 7 ft of flexible drain tubing; thermostat, piping, valves, and air vent are separate.
